You are invited to have the world’s most famous clown visit your Minnesota/Western Wisconsin elementary school to perform “Bully Buster,” a show designed to teach kids about identifying and dealing with bullying.  Ronald McDonald and his cast of silly friends make the message meaningful (and fun!) to children with interactivity, magic, music, and lots of laughter.  As always, there is no reference or mention of any of McDonald’s products.

Ronald will be teaching kids the “C.A.L.M.” approach to dealing with bullying: Cool down, Assert yourself, Look them in the eye, and Mean what you say (and then walk away).  He’ll also stress the importance of bystanders helping out by telling adults if they see a bullying situation.

“Bully Buster” was inspired by the untimely death of Tom Trosvik of Ham Lake, MN.  Tom was a compassionate and talented 12 year old boy that was being bullied both at school and on the bus.  On February 8, 2006 Tom hung himself in the family barn.  Since October 2006 McRooney Entertainment has performed “Bully Buster” over 450 times throughout the state of Minnesota to over 175,000 students, all in Tom’s honor.  In 2010 McDonald’s Restaurants donated $2000 to B.U.L.L.Y., an organization started by Fred and Kathy Trosvik, Tom’s parents.  More information on their organization and their efforts to eliminate bullying can be found at www.battlebullying.com.  WCCO TV did a segment on Tom Trosvik and McDonald’s “Bully Buster” show which can be found at www.wcco.com/video/?id=78838

Who is the appropriate audience?

Kindergarten through fifth grade – and adults, too!  This is a full assembly – it’s about 40 minutes long.

What is the cost?

There is no charge.  Ronald McDonald appears as a community service – courtesy of your nearby McDonald’s restaurant.

What does my school need to provide?

Next to nothing!  We bring our own lights, microphones, speakers, extension cords, sets – everything we need to put on a great show.  The only things we need are your gym and four teachers who will help us during our show.

What else do we need to know?

  • “Bully Buster” is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
  • We will arrive 1 hour and 15 minutes before the show and check in at the office.
  • Please have the performance space clear for a full hour before the show begins and one half hour after the show has concluded.  If this is not possible please close the gym dividers or stay on one half of the gym while we set up/tear down.
